Terms of Service

Effective date: November 30, 2025

Roots of Life Community (“Roots of Life,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a community that tries to Love Radically—God, all people, creation, and ourselves. That includes how we steward the online spaces connected to rootsoflife.community and the related tools, forms, and messaging services that link to these Terms (the “Site”).

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) describe how we expect our shared online space to be used. By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you don’t agree, it’s okay—but please don’t use the Site.

1. Who we are

Roots of Life Community is an inclusive, justice-minded Lutheran church in Noblesville, Indiana, seeking to live out the call to Love Radically through worship, service, and compassion for all.

The Site helps us share:

  • Worship times and locations
  • Events and opportunities to serve
  • Ways to give and support the ministry
  • Stories, reflections, and updates

2. Eligibility

By using the Site, you confirm that:

  • You are at least the age of majority where you live, or you are using the Site under the guidance and consent of a parent or guardian, and
  • You have the capacity to agree to these Terms under applicable law.

3. How you may use the Site

We hope this Site is a place of welcome, curiosity, and connection. Using it comes with some responsibilities. You agree that you will not:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or to violate any applicable law or regulation
  • Interfere with or disrupt the operation or security of the Site
  • Try to access areas of the Site or server you’re not authorized to access
  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organization
  • Use the Site to harass, threaten, abuse, or harm others
  • Share content that is hateful, racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, or otherwise shaming or demeaning to any group or person
  • Use the Site to send spam or other unwanted or bulk messages

We reserve the right to limit or end access to the Site for users who misuse it or harm others.

4. Content on the Site

4.1 Roots of Life content

The Site may contain text, photos, graphics, videos, audio, logos, and other materials created by or for Roots of Life or shared with permission (“Content”). Unless otherwise noted, this Content is owned by or licensed to Roots of Life and is protected by copyright and other laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Site and its Content for personal, non-commercial purposes related to worship, learning, and community engagement.

Unless you have our written permission or applicable law clearly allows it, you agree not to:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute Content for commercial purposes
  • Create derivative works based on the Content
  • Remove any copyright or other notices

4.2 User content

At times, the Site may allow you to submit or share content (“User Content”), such as:

  • Messages or questions through a contact form
  • Prayer requests or stories
  • Event registrations or comments

You are responsible for your User Content. Please make sure it:

  • Is accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • Does not infringe on others’ rights
  • Does not contain hateful or harmful content

By submitting User Content, you grant Roots of Life a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, and reproduce that content solely to support our ministry—for example, to respond to your message, organize an event, or share a story when you’ve clearly given permission.

We reserve the right (but are not required) to review, edit, or remove User Content that we believe violates these Terms, our values, or applicable law.

5. Online giving and financial contributions

The Site may link to, or embed, tools for giving and other financial contributions. Those are usually operated by third-party payment processors.

When you make a donation:

  • You agree to provide accurate payment information.
  • You authorize the payment processor to charge the amount you specify (including any recurring gifts you set up).
  • Your payment information is subject to the payment processor’s own terms and privacy policy.

Unless clearly noted elsewhere, donations are voluntary contributions to support the ministry of Roots of Life and may not be refundable. If you believe a donation was made in error, please contact us.

We do not provide legal or tax advice about charitable contributions; please consult your own advisor.

6. Email, SMS, and RCS communications

When you share your contact information through the Site, you may choose to receive communications like:

  • Email newsletters and announcements
  • Event invitations and reminders
  • Pastoral care or follow-up messages
  • SMS/MMS/RCS updates (for example, via Twilio or similar providers)

For mobile messaging (SMS/MMS/RCS):

  • By providing your mobile number and opting in, you expressly consent to receive messages from Roots of Life at the number you provide.
  • Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency may vary based on events, announcements, and your involvement.
  • You can opt out at any time by following the instructions in a message (e.g., replying STOP), or by reaching out to us directly to update your preferences.
  • Messages may be sent using automatic or manual systems.

Your choice to opt in or out of messaging does not affect your ability to attend worship, receive communion, or belong in our community.

7. Third-party links and services

Our Site may link to third-party websites, tools, or resources (for example: social media, donation platforms, event registration forms). These are not controlled by Roots of Life.

We are not responsible for:

  • The content on those sites
  • Their privacy practices
  • Their terms of use

Your use of third-party services is at your own discretion and subject to their own policies.

8. Spiritual, pastoral, and informational nature of content

Content on the Site is provided for spiritual, pastoral, and informational purposes. It is not meant to replace:

  • Medical, mental health, or therapeutic care
  • Financial, legal, or other professional advice

If you are facing a crisis or emergency, please contact local emergency services or a crisis hotline immediately. We care deeply about you and want you to get the right kind of help as quickly as possible.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site and all Content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Roots of Life disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that:

  • The Site will always be available, secure, or error-free
  • Any defects will be fixed immediately
  • The Site will be free of viruses or other harmful components
  • The information on the Site will always be complete, current, or accurate

You use the Site at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Roots of Life and its pastors, staff, volunteers, and representatives will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use (or inability to use) the Site or its Content, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

If, despite these limitations, we are found liable for any claim connected to your use of the Site, our total liability will not exceed the amount (if any) you have directly paid to Roots of Life through the Site in the twelve (12) months before the claim arose.

Some places don’t allow certain limitations of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

To the extent allowed by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Roots of Life and its pastors, staff, volunteers, and representatives from and against any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of the Site
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of another person or organization
  • Your User Content

12. Governing law and location for disputes

These Terms and your use of the Site are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site will be handled in the state or federal courts located in or serving the area where Roots of Life is based, and you agree to the jurisdiction of those courts.

13. Termination

We hope this remains a space of welcome. Still, we may, at any time and without notice, suspend or terminate your access to the Site if we reasonably believe you’ve violated these Terms or misused the Site.

You may stop using the Site at any time. Sections that by their nature should continue after termination (such as ownership, disclaimers, limits of liability, and governing law) will remain in force.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally—for example, if we add new features, change service providers, or respond to new laws.

When we update the Terms, we’ll change the “Effective date” at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
